The choice of specialist depends on age: the urologist, and in children the pediatric urologist, is the one who treats epispadias, a congenital malformation in which the opening of the urethra is located in an abnormal position on the penis or, in girls, in an atypical location.

Frequent symptoms: It is identified from birth by the unusual location of the urinary opening and, at times, by difficulty controlling the flow of urine.

Common causes: It is a developmental alteration during the formation of the urinary tract before birth; it is not due to anything the parents did or failed to do.

When to see a doctor? When anatomy different from what is expected is detected, an evaluation by the pediatrician and the urologist or pediatric nephrologist is advisable to define the most appropriate follow-up.
