An epulis is a benign growth of tissue that appears on the gums, generally as a small firm mass near the teeth. Although it is not cancerous, it is a good idea to evaluate it in order to identify its origin.

How it presents: a bump on the gum, the color of the tissue or somewhat reddened, that may bleed when brushing or grow little by little.

Related factors: local irritation, tartar, poorly fitted dentures, and, in some cases, hormonal changes such as those of pregnancy.
