Seventh cranial nerve palsy, or facial palsy, is the loss or weakness of movement of the muscles on one half of the face due to a disruption of the facial nerve. It can appear suddenly.

Common symptoms: difficulty closing one eye, asymmetry when smiling, drooping of the corner of the mouth and, sometimes, changes in taste or sensitivity to sound on the affected side.

When should you see a doctor? A prompt evaluation is advisable when the facial weakness arises abruptly, to rule out causes that require specific care.
