Currently, diseases that affect or present complications in the kidneys are becoming increasingly common (such as diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension), and depending on the stage at which they are diagnosed, management, treatment, and prognosis differ. In advanced stages, when the options are reduced to peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, or kidney transplant, we must consider the best option on an individualized basis; in the case of Kidney Transplant, this can be from a living donor (family member or unrelated, such as friends or spouse, with prior consent and evaluation) or from a deceased person (who gave their consent before dying, or whose family authorizes the donation), and after thorough evaluation of the recipient. During the consultation, I review these options with each patient regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of kidney diseases.
