Most dental practices cover the everyday work: cleanings, fillings, extractions and check-ups. Longer treatments — root canals, orthodontics, implants or prosthetics — usually call for a specialist, and not every practice performs them on site. Before booking, ask directly whether the treatment you need is done there or whether you will be referred elsewhere.
What to check before choosing
Ask for the professional licence (cédula profesional) of the dentist who will actually treat you, not only the clinic's owner, and ask for a written quote that separates the cost of each stage. On long treatments such as orthodontics or implants the opening price is rarely the total: ask what it covers, how many visits it implies and what happens if a step has to be repeated. A serious practice answers that plainly.
Dental emergencies
A blow that loosens or knocks out a tooth, swelling that spreads quickly, or pain that does not settle are reasons to seek care the same day rather than wait for the next free appointment. If there is a high fever, difficulty swallowing, or the swelling reaches the neck or the eye, that is a medical emergency and belongs in an emergency department, not a dental office.
