I am a pediatric Immunologist-Allergist physician; my specialty is dedicated to studying diseases of the immune system, which can be divided into 3 groups: 1. Those with "low" defenses, called immunodeficiencies, characterized mainly by repeated infections that can be mild or severe; these diseases can be inherited or acquired at any point in life; 2. The second group consists of diseases with "high" defenses, meaning that for some reason the immune system does not recognize the organs of our own body and begins to inflame them, so this group is called autoimmune diseases, examples of which include systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis, among others; 3. And the third group, which is the most common, consists of allergic diseases in which the immune system is healthy but reacts excessively to some substance, which can be environmental, food-related, or chemical (such as medicines, contrast media, creams, perfumes, etc.).
