I am Dr. Carlos Martínez; I completed my neurology specialty at the Hospital de Especialidades of Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI and my high specialty in Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases at the Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía "Manuel Velasco Suarez", endorsed by the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). I completed special training in neuromodulation at the Deep Brain Stimulation Training Center at Toronto Western Hospital in Canada and special training in multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology at the Centre d'Esclerosi Múltiple de Catalunya (CEMCAT) in Barcelona, Spain. I am certified by the Consejo Mexicano de Neurología, an active member of the Academia Mexicana de Neurología, the American Academy of Neurology, and the International Movement Disorder Society and Parkinson's Disease. I am currently head of the movement disorders and Parkinson's disease clinic at the Hospital de Especialidades of Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI in Mexico City. I am a professor of the postgraduate course of the clinical neurology specialty at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and professor of the undergraduate neurology course at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. I specialize mainly in the medical care of patients with Parkinson's disease, parkinsonism, and other movement disorders such as hand tremor, dystonia, chorea, myoclonus, or tics. I am an expert in botulinum toxin infiltration for the treatment of conditions such as blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, cervical dystonia, writer's dystonia, and spasticity; I also specialize in the protocolization of advanced therapies such as deep brain stimulation surgery and apomorphine pump for patients with Parkinson's disease. Likewise, I specialize in the care of neurological diseases such as headaches, migraine, facial paralysis, trigeminal neuralgia and other neuralgias, dizziness and vertigo, low back pain, sciatica, diabetic neuropathy and other neuropathies, myopathies, Alzheimer's disease, head trauma, seizures, epilepsy, myasthenia gravis, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, and among other neurological diseases. Finally, I have extensive experience in deep brain stimulation surgery for patients with Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, having participated in more than 100 successful surgeries so far.
