I am a graduate of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, as well as the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Medicas y Nutricion and Hospital General de Mexico. Endocrinology is a branch of internal medicine that addresses the physiology and diseases (both acute and chronic) affecting the function of the endocrine glands. Endocrine diseases are systemic diseases (i.e., their presence leads to alterations in other organs and functions), so their study requires not only focusing on the obvious endocrine dysfunction but also on the rest of the concurrent alterations. While endocrine diseases have a strong genetic basis, many, especially chronic ones, result from our everyday habits. Successful treatment of these diseases requires both medical knowledge and the patient's willingness to improve by changing their habits.
