About the Doctor

Dr. Martinez Said is a Surgical Oncologist specialized in the treatment of Breast Cancer, Melanoma, Soft Tissue Sarcomas, Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Node Biopsy in melanoma and breast cancer, and Regional Cancer Treatment techniques such as Isolated Limb and Organ Perfusion and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). He currently certifies this type of treatment in Mexico and Latin America. He studied Medicine and Surgery at the Universidad Anahuac School of Medicine under the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico program (1987 – 1993). He then completed his postgraduate studies in the General Surgery program (1994 – 1998) at Hospital General "Dr. Manuel Gea Gonzalez" and Surgical Oncology (1998 – 2001) at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia, where he held the position of Chief Resident at both institutions. He also had the opportunity to complete a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mount Sinai of Miami, in Florida (1997); Laparoscopic Advanced Procedures at the Texas Endosurgery Institute in San Antonio, Texas (1997-1998) and a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands (2002) under the direct supervision of Alexander M.M. Eggermont (current Director General of the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute in Paris). He is currently Vice President of the Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia (2018-2019) and served as president of the Melanoma Committee of the Sociedad Mexicana de Oncologia from 2005 to 2017, founder of the Grupo Mexicano de Investigacion en Melanoma in 2007, President of the Grupo de Investigacion en Sarcomas en Mexico (GISM) since 2009 and Executive President of the three National Melanoma Consensus meetings (2004, 2005, and 2012). He has also served as President of the Research Ethics Committee (2006 to 2009) and President of the Medical Society (2009 to 2010) of the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia. Internationally: he is a full member of the Society of Surgical Oncology and was part of the Executive Council as International Representative from March 2015 to February 2018; he belongs to the American Society of Clinical Oncology and is a founding member and President of the Latin-American Society of Surgical Oncology (LASSO), an organization that brings together 15 Latin American countries. He is author or co-author of more than 70 publications in prestigious journals, books and monographs. He is currently Associate Editor of the Melanoma section at the Annals of Surgical Oncology, the world's leading surgical oncology journal, where he is also Chairman of the Latin American Advisory Board. He is founder of the "The Best of Society of Surgical Oncology Meeting" Congress together with the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Instituto Nacional de Cancerologia for Mexico, Latin America and Asia, a congress that will hold its tenth edition this year. Concerned about access to cancer treatment for low-income patients, Dr. Martinez Said began his master's degree in Public Policy at the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), where he conducts research to determine the best path to achieve access to these costly treatments
