About the Doctor

Hello, my name is José Basilio Romo Velázquez, everyone calls me Dr. Basilio. Challenges are the steps of my life, and the biggest one, back in my student days at the UNAM School of Medicine, was the pediatrics course — the hardest for a student, as a classmate used to say, "children don't talk to tell you what's wrong," and the younger they are, the harder it is to find the illness — a challenge I overcame and one I still live in, studying and updating myself every day as if it were the first year of my career, four to six national and international conferences a year, to offer greater life opportunities to children from premature infants up to age 16, monitoring their growth and development every month in the office, administering childhood, adult, and traveler vaccines, respiratory and digestive diseases, skin conditions, urinary tract infections, gastroesophageal reflux, asthma and persistent cough, sinusitis, ear infections, common infections, fever, and skin rashes. I have always collaborated with the breastfeeding support group since it began in Aguascalientes 20 years ago, supporting moms who choose breastfeeding, from rooming-in at birth up to two years as recommended by the World Health Organization, of course always respecting the mother's free choice. If necessary — though we hope it doesn't happen — we care for critically ill newborns, with the specialty in neonatology. 30 years as a physician in the social security system in neonatal and pediatric intensive care since 1987, retired from IMSS as head of the Intensive Care Unit, former head of the pediatric emergency and intensive care department at Hospital Star Medica Aguascalientes, former president of the pediatricians' college of Aguascalientes.
