About the Doctor

From the moment we are born we are in constant social exchange, mainly with the family, so it is impossible to consider that we are isolated and independent beings. We depend on one another to survive and develop emotionally, socially, physically, and intellectually; it is others who, to a great extent, help us determine our identity. Even though there are individual processes and experiences in our lives, we cannot fail to observe that we live within a shared and influential social system. Since the family circle is our first social contact, however this institution also does not exist in isolation but is immersed in a given historical-cultural moment, which is why the family is constantly changing along with the changes it faces, whether these are social, political, economic, religious, etc. The family is considered in our culture to be the most important institution in society, being responsible for the comprehensive development of its members and promoting their integration into society. This is why for many years various disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, law, and psychology among others have tried to understand, explain, and influence issues related to the family. Around the nineteen fifties, family therapy emerged, giving a deeper explanation of the human being and of their problems, taking into account the individual in their social context and not only in individual processes as traditional psychology did. Family therapy considers that psychopathology resides in the functioning and interactions among the members that make up the system, so the problem is relational. One of the main premises of systemic family therapy is that modifying the family organization or structure consequently impacts the position, perspective, and experience of its members. Through various systemic approaches or models an attempt is made to provide explanations and solutions to the difficulties faced by individuals and families. It has been shown based on evidence that systemic therapy is a useful tool in the field of psychology to treat not only families, but favorable results are also seen in couples and individual therapy.
