Dr. Juan Fernando Calderon Carrillo
About the Doctor
I am a surgeon constantly striving to improve, seeking to perfect techniques and stay at the forefront of surgical possibilities; I follow internationally accepted diagnostic and treatment algorithms and seek to select the optimal procedure for each patient. I care that patients thoroughly understand their condition and know why they are candidates for one procedure or another; I invest time in explanation because I understand that a patient with no doubts about their condition or ideal procedure is a patient who makes good decisions. Among the procedures in which I am trained are: . Minimally invasive spine surgery (microdiscectomy: decompression in narrow lumbar canal via tubular techniques in multiple segments, oblique and anterior retroperitoneal discectomies, minimally invasive resection of spinal tumors) and minimal exposure (decompression in narrow lumbar canal and stabilization with static and dynamic interspinous devices, as well as stabilization of anterior elements with interbody prostheses, placement of facet stabilizers with hybrid stabilization techniques. . Percutaneous procedures for lumbar and cervical pain as well as radiculopathy (radiofrequency facet thermocoagulation, foraminal and dorsal branch infiltrations, nucleoplasty) . Minimally invasive spine surgery in geriatric patients (narrow lumbar and cervical canal, tubular decompression techniques with foraminoplasty and flavectomy using tandem techniques, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty in compression fractures, cemented percutaneous screws) . Endoscopic techniques for lumbar degenerative disease as well as anterior and middle skull base. . Motion-preserving decompressive techniques both in cervical segments and in the lumbosacral spine. . Vascular neurosurgery (cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations) . Oncological surgery (supratentorial and infratentorial brain tumors) . Pediatric neurosurgery (ventriculoperitoneal shunts, brain endoscopy, tumor lesions, neural tube closure defects, and craniosynostosis) . Combined, more than 1250 procedures in 9 years.
