My role as a Fetal Surgeon is to help you carry out proper prenatal monitoring together with your OB-GYN, focused on the care, prediction, prevention, detection, and, in some cases, correction of the main diseases and/or complications that can occur at any point during your pregnancy. Likewise, I can help confirm that your baby is in optimal condition, has adequate growth for their gestational age, as well as rule out any structural defect or disruption in their development throughout the pregnancy, including cases that are candidates for therapy or surgery before birth. Today, the fetus is considered a "patient" and, as such, can become ill during pregnancy. In some cases, only a timely and properly performed surgical intervention can improve their prognosis for extrauterine life, seeking to avoid intrauterine fetal death, neonatal death, and residual injuries in the newborn.
