I am Dr Marcos Jaciel Olalde Román, physician specialized in CARDIOLOGY, with an advanced specialty in HEART FAILURE and TRANSPLANTS. I am trained in patients with advanced heart failure, and I care for patients with dilated cardiomyopathy secondary to oncologic problems (CARDIO-ONCOLOGY). I have more than 12 years of experience. I am a staff physician at the first heart failure clinic in Mexico, UMAE Centro Médico Nacional, siglo XXI, at the Hospital de Cardiología. What is heart failure? Heart failure appears when the heart is not able to adequately fulfill its function: pumping blood throughout the body. The heart is prepared to work under harsh conditions and has compensation mechanisms that allow it to keep working properly even after having suffered damage (such as a myocardial infarction). Therefore, heart failure is a serious problem, since it indicates that the heart is failing. In itself, this condition is the final stage of heart disease. Years ago there were no effective treatments available to control this condition; currently, this group of patients already has medical, interventional, and support alternatives, in order to improve quality of life and improve the functional class of the patient with heart failure.
