In my training as a pediatrician, pediatric cardiologist, and echocardiographer, I understand how difficult it is for parents to hear that their child might have a heart problem, so during the consultation I offer them an extensive and detailed explanation of their baby's problem or problems, as well as the possibility of performing the echocardiographic study (that is, the heart ultrasound) from the first visit in order to confirm the diagnostic suspicion; in addition, every pediatric cardiology consultation already includes the study and interpretation of a 12-lead electrocardiogram.
