Areolar Gland Abscess

An abscess of the areolar gland is a collection of pus in the small glands located around the nipple, on the areola. It usually originates when one of these glands becomes obstructed and infected, forming a tender lump.

Frequent symptoms: a reddened, warm, and painful area at the edge of the areola, sometimes with swelling, a palpable nodule, or discharge.

When to see a doctor? A review is advisable when pain that increases, fever, or a lump that does not improve appears, as it requires evaluation to define the management.
