Secondary Aplastic Anemia

Secondary aplastic anemia is a disorder in which the bone marrow reduces its capacity to produce blood cells, as a consequence of an identifiable external factor and not of a cause originating in the marrow itself. This decreases the amount of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Common causes: It may be associated with exposure to certain chemical or toxic substances, to some treatments, to viral infections, or to certain underlying diseases that affect the bone marrow.

• Greater tendency to infections
