Acute Cystitis

Acute cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder, usually of infectious origin, that appears suddenly and causes discomfort when urinating. It is more common in women because of anatomical features.

Common symptoms:

• Burning or pain when urinating
• An urgent and frequent need to go to the bathroom
• A feeling of not fully emptying the bladder
• Cloudy or strong-smelling urine

When to seek care? It is advisable to see a doctor if the discomfort persists, there is fever, lower back pain, or blood in the urine, since these may indicate that the infection requires evaluation.

Which specialist treats it? The general practitioner, the urologist and, in women, the gynecologist can evaluate it. In the presence of urinary symptoms that do not subside, a timely visit helps confirm the cause and guide the appropriate follow-up.
