Adrenal Crisis

An adrenal crisis is a serious and sudden situation that occurs when the adrenal glands do not produce enough of their hormones, especially cortisol, leaving the body without the resources to respond to a significant demand.

How it may show up: It usually appears with intense weakness, abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, low blood pressure, confusion, and marked decline, frequently triggered by an infection, an injury, or physical stress.

Why act promptly: It is a medical emergency; when these signs appear, especially in people with known adrenal problems, immediate care should be sought without waiting for the condition to progress.

Which specialist treats it? The endocrinologist studies diseases of the adrenal glands, and in childhood the pediatrician takes part in the evaluation and support of the child.
