Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDC) is a disorder in which the hip joint does not form properly, so that the head of the femur and the socket that holds it do not fit together correctly.

Why it is monitored: It is usually identified in infants and young children, so its early detection during check-ups is part of child care.

Possible signs: It may be associated with asymmetry in the folds of the legs, limited hip movement, or differences when moving it, findings that the professional evaluates.
