Streeter Dysplasia

Streeter dysplasia, also known as amniotic band sequence, is a developmental abnormality during pregnancy in which bands of tissue from the amniotic sac can become entangled around parts of the developing baby. This mechanical interference affects the growth of the involved structures.

Possible manifestations: It is usually associated with constriction grooves or rings on fingers or limbs, fusion of fingers, and, in some cases, deformities of the hands or feet.

When to seek care? Prenatal evaluation is worthwhile when it is suspected during pregnancy studies, and newborn examination if these signs are identified at birth.
