Ollier Disease
Ollier disease is a form of enchondromatosis in which multiple enchondromas, benign cartilage tumors, develop, mainly in the bones of the limbs. It usually appears in childhood and can affect bone growth.
How it is recognized: deformities in the arms or legs, differences in length between limbs, bumps on the hands or feet, and, at times, bones that fracture easily.
Care and follow-up: because of its chronic nature, it requires periodic monitoring to observe bone growth and the progression of the lesions.
Indicated specialists: the orthopedist and the pediatric orthopedist are the ones who evaluate this disease, with support from the hand surgeon when the bones of the hands are involved. If you identify deformities or differences in the limbs, discussing it with these professionals allows for appropriate follow-up.
