Enteritis

Enteritis is an inflammation of the small intestine that usually disrupts digestion and intestinal transit. It can appear on its own or accompany processes that also affect the stomach or the large intestine.

The one who guides this condition is the gastroenterologist, a specialist in the digestive system; in children, the pediatrician assesses the situation and decides whether a more specific evaluation is warranted.

Common symptoms: Diarrhea, abdominal pain or cramps, nausea and, at times, fever or a general feeling of being unwell.

Common causes: Infections from viruses, bacteria, or parasites, reactions to certain foods or medications, among other factors.
