Salmonella Enterocolitis

Salmonella enterocolitis is an inflammation of the small intestine and colon caused by bacteria of the genus Salmonella, which are usually acquired by eating contaminated foods such as eggs, meats, or dairy products handled without sufficient hygiene.

Common causes: infection occurs through the digestive route, by ingesting contaminated water or food, and also through contact with poorly sanitized surfaces or utensils.

Common symptoms:

• diarrhea, sometimes with mucus or blood
• abdominal pain and cramps
• fever, nausea, and vomiting
