Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is a severe form of infection with the dengue virus, transmitted by the bite of the Aedes mosquito, in which blood circulation and clotting are disrupted.

Warning signs: After the initial days of fever, severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from the gums or nose, spots on the skin and marked weakness may appear. These signs require immediate attention.

Prevention: Reducing mosquito breeding sites, eliminating standing water and protecting against bites are key measures in areas where the virus circulates.

Who should you see? In the event of fever with warning signs, emergency medical care should be sought; the gastroenterologist may step in when there are digestive manifestations during follow-up. Do not wait if bleeding or severe abdominal pain appears.
