Spinal Fracture

A spinal fracture is the breaking of one or more vertebrae, the bones that form the spine. It can arise from significant trauma, such as falls or accidents, or from weakening of the bone.

Common symptoms: Back or neck pain that worsens with movement and, in more serious cases, tingling, weakness in the arms or legs, or difficulty moving.

When to seek care? After a hard blow to the back, or if intense pain appears accompanied by a loss of strength or sensation, the evaluation should be immediate.

Which specialist treats it? The neurosurgeon assesses this type of injury, especially when involvement of the spinal cord or the nerves is suspected. If you experience a spinal trauma with these signs, seeking medical care immediately is the most sensible thing.
