Gigantism

Gigantism is a rare condition that occurs in childhood or adolescence, when there is an excess of growth hormone before the bones complete their development. As a result, body growth is markedly greater than expected for the age.

Common symptoms: Height well above average, accelerated growth, large hands and feet and, at times, headaches or joint discomfort.

When to see a doctor? An evaluation is recommended when a child or adolescent grows disproportionately or much faster than their peers.
