Gingivostomatitis

Gingivostomatitis is an inflammation of the gums and of the mucosa lining the inside of the mouth, which can cause discomfort when eating, speaking, or performing oral hygiene. It is more common in childhood, although it can occur at any age.

Common symptoms: red and swollen gums, sores or ulcers in the mouth, bad breath, pain when chewing and, in some cases, general malaise.

Common causes: it can be associated with infections, poor oral hygiene, or irritation of the tissues of the mouth.

Which specialist treats it? it falls to the dentist, with support from the periodontist and, in children, the pediatric dentist. If the discomfort in the gums and mouth persists or makes eating difficult, the advisable thing is to schedule a check-up with an oral health professional.
