Bartholin Gland Cyst

The gynecologist is the specialist who evaluates problems of the Bartholin gland, two small glands located on each side of the vaginal opening whose function is to lubricate the area. When their duct becomes blocked, a cyst can form or, if it becomes infected, an abscess.

Common signs: a lump in one of the vaginal lips, a sensation of pressure or discomfort when sitting or walking and, if there is an infection, pain, redness, and increased temperature in the area.

Common causes: blockage of the gland's duct, sometimes favored by infections, is the most common mechanism.
