Simple Hemangioma

Simple hemangioma is a benign tumor formed by a buildup of small blood vessels, that usually appears on the skin as a patch or raised area of red or pink color. It is one of the most common vascular growths in babies and young children.

Common characteristics: It tends to be noticed in the first weeks of life, can grow during the first months and, in many cases, decrease in size over time. It can arise on the face, neck, trunk or extremities.

When is it worth having it checked? It is worth watching if it grows rapidly, bleeds, ulcerates or is located near the eyes, lips or airways.

Who evaluates it? The dermatologist and the pediatrician are the professionals who guide its follow-up, and the general practitioner can provide the first evaluation. If you notice a change in its appearance, the most prudent thing is to discuss it with one of them to determine whether it requires observation or study.
