Chronic Persistent Hepatitis

When the liver undergoes inflammation that persists over a prolonged period, it is called chronic and persistent hepatitis. It is a condition in which the liver tissue remains irritated in a sustained way, which requires ongoing medical monitoring.

Which specialist treats it? The gastroenterologist is the professional who studies and follows liver diseases; in children and adolescents the pediatric gastroenterologist is involved, and the pediatrician often takes part in the initial care.

Common symptoms: It may go without obvious discomfort for a long time, or be associated with fatigue, loss of appetite, discomfort in the right side of the abdomen, or yellowing of the skin and eyes.
