Le Fort Fractures

Le Fort injuries are fractures of the midface that follow characteristic patterns described according to the line that affects the upper jaw and the neighboring bones. They usually originate from high-energy trauma, such as traffic accidents, significant falls, or direct blows to the face.

Warning signs: intense facial pain, swelling, difficulty biting or closing the mouth normally, nosebleeds, and, occasionally, a sensation that the face "moves." With a strong blow to the face, an immediate evaluation is advisable.

Which specialist handles them? Their management falls mainly to the maxillofacial surgeon, with support from the dentist and, when reconstruction is needed, the plastic surgeon.
