Nits

Nits are the eggs of lice, small oval structures that attach firmly to the base of the hair. Their presence indicates an infestation by lice, called pediculosis, common especially in school-age children.

Common symptoms: itching of the scalp, a tickling sensation and, on inspection, tiny whitish specks stuck to the hair that do not come off easily.

Which specialist to see? The general practitioner can provide guidance in most cases, and the dermatologist when there is significant irritation or doubts about the diagnosis.

When to seek care? If the itching persists or the infestation returns despite measures at home, it is advisable to have a professional evaluation that confirms the problem and clarifies how to prevent transmission among household members.
