Arnold-Chiari Malformation

Arnold-Chiari malformation is an abnormality in which part of the cerebellum, located at the base of the brain, shifts downward through the opening of the skull that connects with the spine, occupying a space that normally belongs to the spinal cord.

Common symptoms: It may occur without discomfort or present with headache at the back of the head that increases with exertion, balance problems, tingling, or difficulty swallowing; at times it is detected on imaging studies.
