Meibomianitis

Meibomianitis is the inflammation of the Meibomian glands, located at the edge of the eyelids, which are responsible for producing part of the oily layer that protects the tear film. Their disruption affects the lubrication of the eye.

Common symptoms: burning, a foreign-body sensation, red or crusted eyelids, dry eyes and, at times, somewhat blurred vision that improves with blinking.

Common causes: it is usually associated with the obstruction of these glands and with changes in the eyelid margin, which alter the quality of the tear film.
