Bone Metastases

Bone metastasis is the presence of cells from a cancer that originated in another part of the body and have spread to the bone tissue.

Possible manifestations: It can be associated with bone pain, greater fragility of the bone, or localized discomfort that persists over time.

When to consult? Bone pain that does not improve, especially in people with a history of cancer, warrants medical evaluation.

Which specialists treat it? The management of bone metastasis is usually a joint effort: the oncologist coordinates the overall picture, the radiation oncologist and the radiation therapist take part in its approach, and the orthopedist evaluates the bone component. Discussing any symptom with your medical team allows for a timely evaluation.
