Myelomeningocele

Myelomeningocele is a type of neural tube defect present from birth, in which the spine and the spinal cord do not fully close during development. It is the most noticeable form within the group known as spina bifida.

Manifestations: Depending on the affected area, it can be associated with changes in the movement and sensation of the legs, as well as in the control of bladder and bowel function.

Origin: Its appearance is related to genetic and environmental factors during pregnancy, including maternal nutrition.
