Body Lice

Body lice are an infestation of the skin caused by a parasitic insect that, unlike head lice, lives mainly in clothing and bedding, from which it moves to feed on the skin. It is associated with crowded conditions or difficulty changing and washing clothes.

Common symptoms: Intense itching, especially on the neck, shoulders, waist, and armpits, along with scratch marks and, at times, skin irritation.

When to seek care? An assessment is advisable when the itching is persistent, the skin becomes irritated, or contagion in the close environment is suspected.

Which specialist treats them? The general practitioner can guide the initial management, and the aesthetic or dermatological physician can support the care of the affected skin. In the case of itching that does not let up, the sensible thing is to have a professional review the situation.
