Mucous Retention Cyst

A mucous retention cyst is a small sac filled with mucus that forms when a minor salivary gland becomes blocked and the fluid accumulates beneath the lining of the mouth. It usually appears on the lower lip, the cheeks, or the floor of the mouth.

Common features:

• Soft, rounded, translucent lump
• Size that may vary or recur
• Generally painless, unless it becomes irritated
