The retina specialist and the ophthalmologist, together with the pediatrician, are the ones who evaluate retinopathy of prematurity, a disorder of the retina's blood vessels that can occur in babies born prematurely.

What it involves: It affects the development of the vessels of the retina, the layer of the eye responsible for capturing light, and for this reason it requires monitoring in premature newborns.

Common causes: It is related to premature birth, since the eye has not yet completed its development.

When should you see a doctor? In premature babies, scheduled ophthalmologic review is recommended to detect any change in time. Attending the evaluations indicated by the professional is key to protecting the child's vision.
