Congenital Rubella

Congenital rubella is the set of alterations a baby may have when the mother contracts the rubella virus during pregnancy and it passes to the fetus. Its effects depend on the point in pregnancy at which the infection occurs.

Frequent symptoms: In the newborn, low weight, vision and hearing problems, heart alterations, and skin manifestations may be observed.

Common causes: It originates from maternal infection with the rubella virus, especially in the early stages of pregnancy.
