Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease in which small clusters of cells, called granulomas, form in various organs. Although it can affect almost any part of the body, the lungs and lymph nodes are frequently involved.

Which specialist treats it? Because of its multisystem nature, more than one professional is usually involved: the pulmonologist when the lungs are affected, along with the internist, the dermatologist, the ophthalmologist, the gastroenterologist, or the endocrinologist depending on the organs involved.

Common symptoms: Fatigue, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, skin lesions, or eye discomfort may occur, although in some cases it is detected without clear symptoms.

When should you seek care? If you notice prolonged respiratory signs or unexplained skin and eye changes, it is advisable to have a specialist assess your situation individually.
