Pseudogout
Pseudogout is a form of crystal deposition arthritis in which calcium pyrophosphate crystals accumulate within the joints, which can cause episodes of inflammation similar to those of gout.
Common symptoms: Pain, swelling and redness of a joint, frequently the knee, which may appear suddenly.
When is it advisable to seek care? When a joint becomes inflamed unexpectedly, hurts when moved or the discomfort returns at different times.
Which specialist treats it? Evaluation of joint problems caused by crystals usually falls to the rheumatologist; in minors, the pediatrician may be the first point of reference and refer as warranted. It is advisable to review any recurrent joint discomfort with a professional who can study its origin.
