Primary intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a disorder in which the intestine behaves as if it were blocked, with symptoms typical of an obstruction, but without there being a true physical barrier preventing the passage of contents through the digestive tract.

Common causes: it is related to abnormalities in the muscles or nerves that control intestinal movement, which impairs normal transit and allows the contents to stagnate.

Common symptoms: abdominal distension and pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, and a feeling of early fullness when eating, which may come and go over time.
