Shigellosis

Shigellosis is an intestinal infection caused by bacteria of the Shigella genus, which are transmitted mainly through contaminated water or food and by contact with sick people. It affects the intestine and usually causes diarrhea.

Common symptoms:

• Diarrhea, sometimes with mucus or blood
• Abdominal pain and cramps
• Fever and general malaise
