Hypovolemic Shock

Hypovolemic shock is an emergency that occurs when the body rapidly loses a large amount of blood or fluids, so that the heart cannot pump enough to maintain circulation. The organs stop receiving the oxygen they need.

Warning signs: pale and cold skin, a fast and weak pulse, rapid breathing, confusion, intense thirst, and decreased urine output. It is a life-threatening situation.

When should you seek help? With significant bleeding, severe dehydration, or these signs, the right thing to do is to activate emergency services immediately.

Which specialist treats it? At the critical moment the emergency physician and, depending on the cause, the cardiovascular surgeon or the cardiologist step in; in children, the pediatric cardiologist is involved. Immediate care is decisive in these cases.
