Congenital Syphilis

Congenital syphilis is an infection that a baby can acquire during pregnancy or delivery when the mother lives with untreated syphilis. Prenatal follow-up is key to preventing it and detecting it in time.

In the care of the newborn, the neonatologist and the pediatrician participate, who evaluate the baby; during pregnancy, the gynecologist follows up on the mother's health, and the dermatologist may intervene when there are skin manifestations.

Possible manifestations in the baby: They can include involvement of the skin, mucous membranes, bones, or other organs, although at times there are no evident signs at birth.
