Brain Herniation Syndrome

Herniation syndrome refers to the displacement of brain tissue out of its usual position within the skull, generally due to a significant increase in pressure inside it; it is a serious situation that requires immediate care.

What causes it? It may be due to bleeding, tumors, intense inflammation, or fluid buildup that increases the pressure inside the skull.

Warning signs: Altered level of alertness, severe headache, vomiting, changes in the pupils, or noticeable weakness are signs that should not be overlooked.

Who treats it? The neurosurgeon is the specialist who evaluates these situations. When sudden, severe neurological signs appear, seeking emergency care is the most responsible course of action.
