Klein-Waardenburg Syndrome
Klein-Waardenburg syndrome is a variant of Waardenburg syndrome, a genetic condition that combines changes in the pigmentation of the skin, hair and eyes with possible hearing problems, and that is also associated with particularities in the arms.
Features that may be observed: a lock of colorless hair, eyes of different shades, wide spacing between the eyes, hearing loss and, in this variant, abnormalities in the development of the upper limbs.
When to seek evaluation? when signs of decreased hearing are detected along with striking pigmentation features, especially in childhood.
Which specialists are involved? the otolaryngologist evaluates hearing and the pediatrician coordinates the child's overall follow-up. Seeing a professional allows each component of the condition to be properly assessed.
