Russell-Silver Syndrome

Russell-Silver syndrome is a growth disorder of genetic origin that is recognized from early stages and that is associated with smaller-than-expected body development.

Characteristic features: Low weight and stature from birth, difficulty growing at the usual rate, asymmetry between the two sides of the body in some cases, and particular facial features.

Origin of the condition: It is related to disorders in regions of the genetic material that regulate growth; it is not due to nutrition or upbringing.

Who provides follow-up: The pediatrician coordinates the monitoring of growth and development, with support from endocrinology when necessary. If your daughter or son is growing below what is expected in a sustained way, discussing it with their pediatrician makes it possible to organize appropriate follow-up.
